PANTHER
The SiS Interview by Rusty Roberts
Welcome to the first in a series of mini-interviews with our selections from the Bands to Watch for 2008. Up first, we’ve got the former solo/now duo northwestern sensation known as Panther. Following the buzz that grew around last spring’s Secret Lawns (MTV 2 did nominate “You Don’t Want Yr. Nails Done" for Video of the Year. Why it lost is beyond me.)
Now joined by drummer Joe Kenny, here we get a few words from Panther singer and dancer Charlie Salas-Humara on their new album, 14Kt. God (Kill Rock Stars,) and men getting ... pregnant?

SIS: We’ve named you one of Stranded In Stereo’s Bands to Watch in 2008. What is the first feeling or thought that comes to mind?
Charlie Salas-Humara: Wow! We are stoked! Now we have to work harder.
SIS: How does your new album, 14Kt. God, differ in comparison to last year’s Secret Lawns?
CS: It’s completely organic now with all live instruments. it also has more of a pop element and incorporates latin rhythms as well as punk structures
SIS: In 15 words of less, why should people buy your record?
CS: It has a song called “Total Sexy Church.”
SIS: If you or Joe were on the cover of a tabloid magazine, what would it be for?
CS: For being the first men to get pregnant!
SIS: What is your favorite and least favorite thing about being on the road?
CS: I really love hanging out with people at all the shows. I have come to meet a lot of nice people over the last couple of years to call my friends.
