ALAN POWNALL
The SiS Interview by Veronica Pulcini
We like this recent Band of the Week-er so much so that we decided to drop him a few questions via e-mail to talk about his burgeoning music career. Pownall has just dropped a 7", Clara, on the London indie stalwart Young and Lost Club (early home to White Lies, Johnny Flynn, and Bombay Bicycle Club) and he'll be working on his debut album later this year. Despite not knowing how he feels about Jack Johnson, he was able to fill in the blanks on our other queries.

SIS: You’ve done covers of Beyonce’s “Single Ladies (put a ring on it)” and Kanye West’s “Love Lockdown.” Are you worried you will only be known as the guy who covers mainstream artists?
AP: I recorded "Single Ladies" for a website called Indie Ghetto. They asked me to do "Love Lockdown" but I was bored of it. It's not something i'll be making a habit of.
SIS: You previously were involved in the fashion industry. How and why did you make the transition in to the music?
AP: Playing music just seemed to fit better than anything i'd done before. The transition came at art school. I bought a guitar and I slowly started playing music more and going to school less. I dropped out and six months later I was on tour with Adele.
SIS: What was it like touring with Adele? How did her audience react to your sound?
AP: The audience was always receptive and polite, but I was so new to it all then. I was shy and inexperienced, I didn't know how to play to the audience.
SIS: The press has referred to you as the British Jack Johnson; how do you feel about that?
AP: I don't know how I feel about that.
